Ο θεσμός των The Game Awards αποτελεί την υπέρτατη γιορτή των καλύτερων videogames που κυκλοφορούν ανά έτος, με σκοπό να αναδείξει τον απόλυτο κυρίαρχο σε 29 κατηγορίες. Η διοργάνωσή τους πραγματοποιήθηκε για πρώτη φορά το 2014 με πρωταγωνιστή τον Geoff Keighley και έκτοτε εδραιώθηκαν ως ένα από τα σημαντικότερα gaming events του κόσμου. Ανάμεσα στις ανακοινώσεις των νικητών κάθε κατηγορίας, η διοργάνωση φέρει και πολλές ανακοινώσεις και εκπλήξεις από τον κόσμο του gaming, με την εμφάνιση ορισμένων από τους πιο αναμενόμενους τίτλους.
Το μεγαλύτερο βραβείο της διοργάνωσης είναι φυσικά το Game of the Year Award. Από το 2014 μέχρι και σήμερα έχουν αποσπάσει το βραβείο τα εξής videogames:

Φέτος το διεκδικούν έξι μοναδικά και πανέμορφα videogames, κάθε ένα από τα οποία άφησε το δικό του στίγμα στη χρονιά που μας αποχαιρετά σε λίγες εβδομάδες. Το Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, ένα turn-based RPG από τη γαλλική Sandfall Interactive που καθήλωσε με την ιστορία του και το πρωτοποριακό σύστημα μάχης του. Το Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, το πολυαναμενόμενο sequel της Kojima Productions που αποτέλεσε μια σημαντική αναβάθμιση σε όλους τους τομείς σε σχέση με τον προκάτοχό του. Το Donkey Kong Bananza, ένα από τα πρώτα μεγάλα αποκλειστικά games του Nintendo Switch 2, με τον αγαπημένο DK να επιστρέφει σε 3D platformer ύστερα από πολλά πολλά χρόνια. Το Hades II, το roguelike action RPG της Supergiant Games με το φανταστικό του gameplay, το πολύ ιδιαίτερο artwork και το αξιομνημόνευτο soundtrack που το χαρακτηρίζει. Το Hollow Knight: Silksong, ένα από τα πλέον αναμενόμενα indie games από την Team Cherry που συνεχίζει επάξια την κληρονομιά του original Metroidvania game. Και το Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, το action RPG των Warhorse Studios και Deep Silver με τον απίστευτο ανοιχτό κόσμο του, τους μηχανισμούς RP και την εξαιρετική ιστορία του.
Το Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 έχει τη μερίδα του λέοντος στις φετινές υποψηφιότητες, αφού εμφανίζεται σε δώδεκα από αυτές. Οι φετινοί νικητές αναμένεται να ανακοινωθούν στις 12 Δεκεμβρίου, στις 2:00 π.μ. ώρα Ελλάδος και η διοργάνωση θα μεταδοθεί μέσα από επίσημα κανάλια σε YouTube και Twitch. Σύμφωνα με τους διοργανωτές, το 2024 σημειώθηκαν 154 εκατομμύρια livestreams των The Game Awards, νούμερο που φυσικά και θα μπορούσε να αυξηθεί ακόμα περισσότερο φέτος. Εν αναμονή της αποκάλυψης των νικητών, αλλά και ολοκαίνουργιων videogames, ως είθισται στο πλαίσιο της διοργάνωσης, τα ξημερώματα της Παρασκευής 12 Δεκεμβρίου θα μας βρουν… καθηλωμένους.
